Barbara Davis Gallery is pleased to announce Because You're Mine, a solo-exhibition by Houston-based artist Joe Mancuso, opening Friday, September 12, 2014, with an artist reception from 6:30 - 8:30PM. This exhibition is on view beginning September 5 through October 4, 2014.
Houston-based artist Joe Mancuso presents new paintings, sculpture, and a site-specific installation for his latest solo-exhibition Because You're Mine. In this exhibition, Mancuso reexamines concepts and themes throughout his practice and translates them into his latest body of works. The paintings exemplify a contemporary perspective on still-life subject matters and abstraction, which places them in a unique art historical context. Mancuso approaches these subject matters using non-traditional materials such as newsprint, concrete, poured latex paint, and graphite. The content provides a common thread between the paintings, yet each illustrates a distinct methodology as the forms evolve from one work to the next. In his sculpture entitled Bouquet, (The World and Everything), Mancuso utilizes leftover concrete materials from previous works, some of which date back fifteen years, to create a comprehensive assemblage of serendipitous objects. Chandelier is a large-scale site-specific suspended sculpture comprised of dried roses coated with concrete that delicately hangs from a cascading wire structure like a dimensional drawing.
