Barbara Davis Gallery is pleased to announce Carefully Wrapped, an exhibition by artist Paul Fleming and Not Obvious as Songs, an exhibition by artist Joe Mancuso, opening Thursday, October 11th, 2018 with an artist’s reception from 6:00 - 8:00pm. This exhibition is on view through November 10, 2018.

In this exhibition, Carefully Wrapped, Paul Fleming presents new site-specific installations that continue his process driven practice. Captivated by the forms of everyday objects, Fleming casts the objects in hydrocal and resin, while utilizing the voids as vessels for color resin. Stripped of their conventional function, the objects are transformed into non-objective elements that examine the formal aspects of material and form. Color interactions either steadily gradate, or abruptly dissipate—the translucent layers of pigmented resin resembling glass-like pools that vary in depth and opacity. Volume, repetition, and scale are integral to Fleming’s process as the individual elements are duplicated to create immersive, rhythmic patterns. Collectively, the sculptures appear to undulate, confronting the viewer’s visual perception and activating the actual physical space.

In this exhibition, Not Obvious as Songs, Joe Mancuso presents new works, which includes paintings and sculpture, reexamining concepts and themes throughout his practice and translates them into his latest body of work. The work exemplifies a contemporary perspective on still-life subject matters, which places them in a unique art historical context. The content provides a common thread between the work, yet each illustrates a distinct methodology as the forms evolve from one work to the next.
