Barbara Davis Gallery is pleased to announce Going My Way, a group exhibition featuring nine emerging, national, and international artists. The exhibition is in conjunction with ArtHouston 2013, and opens Friday, July 12, with an opening reception from 6:30 - 8:30PM. An open house will take place Saturday, July 13 from 12:00 – 5:00PM. Going My Way is on view through August 31, 2013.
Going My Way includes a new site-specific installation by Paul Fleming (Houston), layered resin sculptures by Gavin Perry (Miami, FL), and new paintings by Mie Olise (Copenhagen and New York), Joe Mancuso (Houston), Danny Rolph (London), Michael Villarreal (San Marcos, TX), and Jason Yates (Los Angeles). Also included in the exhibition are prints by Evan Rottet (Houston) and photographs by Julie Soefer (Houston).

About the Artists:
Paul Fleming received his BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1995. His solo exhibitions include Barbara Davis Gallery and Lawndale Art Center in Houston, Texas. His group exhibitions include Sergio Tossi Arte Contemporanea, Florence, Italy; AR Contemporary in Milan, Italy; The Art League, Houston, Texas; McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas, Texas; Galveston Art Center, Galveston, Texas; University of Houston, Houston, Texas; and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Joe Mancuso lives and works in Houston, Texas. He received his MFA from Indiana University and BFA from Colorado State University. Mancuso’s solo exhibitions include the Museum of Fine Arts Houston; the El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso, Texas; AR Contemporary, Milan, Italy; New York University, New York; and Galveston Art Center, Galveston, Texas. His group exhibitions include the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH); the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (MAC), Dallas, Texas; Serio Tossi Contemporary in Florence, Italy; New Orleans Triennial, New Orleans Museum of Art; Art Cologne, Cologne, Germany; Galerie Rotoff, Karlsruhe, Germany; the Phoenix Art Museum, School 33, Baltimore, MD, and the Blaffer Gallery at the University of Houston; and Kiyo Hagashi Gallery, Los Angeles. Mie Olise was born on the Island of Mors, Denmark, in 1974. She received her MFA from the Central St. Martins School of Art, London in 2007. Her solo exhibitions include Skive New Museum of Contemporary Art, Denmark, with accompanying catalog; Honor Fraser Gallery, Los Angeles; Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston, TX; and the Nikolaj, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center, Copenhagen, Denmark. She was a finalist in the Saatchi Sensation Show, Saatchi Gallery, London and her work has been included in exhibitions at Ystad Museum of Art, Ystad, Sweden; Whitstable Biennale, Kent, United Kingdom; and Bloomberg Space, London. In addition to completing a residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Olise has also completed residencies at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York, and the NES Artist Residency in Iceland. She has received awards from the Danish Art Council, the Rockwool Foundation, and the Niels Wessel Bagge Art Foundation. Olise has been recognized in Art Forum, Flash Magazine, Art News, Brooklyn Paper, Huffington Post, Art World, UK; Time Out, UK; Houston Chronicle, LA Weekly a.o.

Gavin Perry was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1971, and currently lives and works in Miami. Perry's exhibitions include Frederic Snitzer, Miami, Florida; Galerie Sultana, in Paris France; Art Basel, Basel, Swizerland; White Box, New York; and Buamet Sultana Gallerie in Mexico City and Paris, France. Perry was awarded the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium, which included an exhibition at the University Galleries of FAU. His work has been reviewed by Flash Art, Art in America, and Art Papers, and he was named an Artist to Watch in 2011 by The Art Economist.

Danny Rolph was born in London, in 1967, where he continues to live and work. Rolph holds an MA in painting from the Royal College of Art. His solo exhibitions include Koraalberg Gallery, Antwerp; Poppy Sebire, London; AR / Contemporary, Milan; Hales Gallery, London. Group exhibitions include Around the World in 80 Days, Torrance Art Museum, Los Angeles (2012, touring); Galerie Fruehsorge, Berlin; Drawing Room, London; Contemporary Art Space, Riverside, CA; University of Leeds Gallery, Leeds and Southampton City Art Gallery, Hampshire. A monograph entitled Happenstance was published by Broken Glass in 2007.

Evan Rottet lives and works in Houston, Texas. She received her BFA in printmaking from Texas Christian University. She is currently exhibiting work as part of the PrintHouston: PRINTTX exhibition at the Museum of Printmaking History. Her work was also selected for Cross Talk, juried by Christine Besetto at Moudy Gallery, Ft. Worth.

Julie Soefer lives and works in Houston, Texas. She received her BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Julie served as the still photographer for the feature film Super Size Me, snapping the iconic movie-poster image of director Morgan Spurlock. Her work has been featured on the cover of Houston Modern Luxury magazine and she has been published by numerous national publications including The Financial Times, Texas Monthly and The Wall Street Journal. Julie was chosen as a finalist in prestigious Hearst Corporation's 8x10 Photography Biennial and was the winner of the 20th Annual Texas Photographic Society's Member's Only Show, juried by Clint Willour.

Michael Villarreal lives and works in San Marcos, Texas. He received his BFA in painting from Texas State University. His work has been exhibited in the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, TX and Red Arrow Contemporary in Dallas, TX. He was selected to participate in two all student juried exhibitions at Texas State University; the first juried by Claudia Schmuckli, the director and chief curator at the Blaffer Art Museum, and the second by Elizabeth Dunbar, the executive director at Diverseworks Art Space.
