Barbara Davis Gallery proudly announces a new solo exhibition by London based artist Danny Rolph entitled Duke of Burgundy opening Friday, September 7th, 2012, with an artist's reception from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
Houston, Texas - For this exhibition, London based artist Danny Rolph presents twelve new paintings. Rolph's new series continues his vibrant and visually charged vocabulary, through striking color barrage and bold process, bringing the viewer deeper into the compositions. The spirit of inquiry is, as ever, generous, instinctive, and overtly pictorial. Rolph's continued commitment to experimental painting is widely apparent in this exhibition and takes its title from a rare species of butterfly. These new works act harmoniously as backdrops, populated by sharp, delicate, clean, irregular, and emotive forms, with his underlying colors drawing inspiration from the West Texas skies and the effervescenceof Tiepolo paintings. Rolph's paintings remain spatially indulgent and delicious, uncompromising and open to those who believe in the power of visual discovery.
Danny Rolph is represented in major private and public collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Tate Gallery, London, Time Warner, and The Goldman Sachs Collection. Rolph has been awarded such prestigious awards as The Abbey Scholar from The British School of Rome, The London Visual Arts Award, and the Delfina Trust Award.
