ANDREA BIANCONI: LOVE STORY
March 22 - April 20, 2013
Barbara Davis Gallery is pleased to announce Love Story, a new solo-exhibition by internationally known Italian artist Andrea Bianconi, opening Friday, March 22, 2013, with an artist reception from 6:30 - 8:30pm and an artist performance at 7:30pm. Love Story is Andrea Bianconi’s fifth solo-exhibition at Barbara Davis Gallery. There will also be a book signing opening night of Bianconi’s recently published artist book Romance, published by cura.books in September of 2012.
Andrea Bianconi’s exhibition Love Story is comprised of paintings, sculptures, a site-specific wall drawing, and an artist performance, all of which integrate a wide array of materials. In a series of paintings titled IGLOO, Bianconi combines flowers, glue, concrete, and enamel to create a distinct sculptural texture on the surface of the canvas. His multi-layered sculptures relay a narrative through what he calls a “reverse archeology”. Using concrete, glue, and a variety of glazes, Bianconi looks for the crystallization of found objects. Chairs, bicycles, and vases undergo a unique transformation through the process of layering materials. The site-specific wall drawing incorporates black flowers, paint, and transparent paper, and questions the contrapositions between static and dynamic moments. A significant component within the exhibition is Bianconi’s performance on opening night. Essentially, Love Story invites the viewer to explore the complexities of Bianconi’s alternative processes and overarching concepts.
